"Zweifel und Allüren": Wahre Lügen

I have been a bit slow getting around to reviewing the newest CD, "Zweifel und Allüren", by the Düsseldorf band Wahre Lügen, and that is bad because this CD is really great! I have been a fan of this band for many years and have been anxiously awaiting this album the entire time. Yes, it took them 12 years (!!) to put this together but the wait was well worth it.

Despite 12 years, the band has maintained their signature guitar/bass sound. The one odd thing for me on listening was that I already knew almost half of the songs from their 1997 demo tape, "Individuum ist nur eine Zelle", as well as various uploads the band had on their website over the years. Deja vu as that was, the songs had all been remastered and greatly improved upon, the title song being one of them. It was even renamed to confuse us! But it's all good because the result is a professional sounding album comprised of energetic yet very melodic and catchy punk rock. The songs deal with all manner of life including imagined love ("Schizophrene Liebe"), drinking ("Rock die Tasse"), football ("Das Leben und der Ball"), religion (I don't believe") and all types of things in between. The lyrics are solid, nothing extraordinary but well above average and they are delivered in great style by Olly Deymann's awesome vocals. It's almost impossible to name any favorite songs because I like them all so much but there were 2 songs that were strangely addictive for me & I can't explain why: "Rock die Tasse" & "Ich Mag Dich".. I simply had to listen to them over and over again, don't ask, I couldn't explain it even if I wanted to other than both are new songs to me & one is about drinking, always good, and I think it had to do with Olly's singing... But all the songs are great although Frühlingsdepression is kind of REALLY long but it's the last song so it's surviveable.

This CD is definately one of my favorites (though I might be a bit biased) and fans of the band will NOT be disappointed. This album should definately make them some new fans as well. BUY IT!! Mikki8/09
