"Rabautz!": Sub Dub Micromachine![]() "Rabautz!" is the 2002 debut by Berlin's Sub Dub Micromachine. You wouldn't really guess it from the album cover (please excuse my bad scan) but this album rocks pretty heavily! It is mostly in English (one song actually in German, another with a line in German) and, although the English is good, it's still clear that this isn't their native language. But that's ok! The album starts out well with the track, "Break the Rules" which is fast paced & fun to listen to. "Wake up" is also a good song but my favourite off this album is definately the third song, "Eternal Fight". The singing has a good rhythm and the chorus is great. "Renegades" and "No Return" are ok but nothing special but I liked the lyrics to "Legoland brennt" (this is the song with one line of German) which deal with an unhappy child who grows up to be an angry, and somewhat violent, young man. "Recognize yourself" starts out with a great sound that sort of shifts into something else and the lyrics are kind of strange here so we'll just move on ;) "Jahrhundertstaender" is the only song on this album in German & also includes some great music that kind of shifts now and then into something not quite as good (but not bad, mind you) & it has the interesting line: "Und ist ihr Arsch so gross wie eine Bahnhofuhr"... Now I have noooo idea how big a Bahnhofuhr is but it must be bigger than a normal sized "Arsch" ;). "Looza" was ok but I liked "So far" alot. This also has a great line included that I'd love to run about saying to random strangers on the street: "Eat shit/ tacky bitch/ suck my dick" Haha!!! Ok, maybe it doesn't sound so interesting here but I found it quite amusing anyway... "Bullshit" is also an awesome song. Now we come to a very strange song and I'm not even sure I like it :-/ "Last Resort" is slooow & the singing is rather bizarre. It's about some guy who falls in love with a 15 year old, "I fell in love/ Suddenly I forgot the law" and the girl ended up killing herself and he's at her grave bemoaning the circumstances leading to her death. It's just a weird song and the fact that they're not native English speakers is particularly evident here. The last song, "Xavy Metal" is much more upbeat, kind of reminiscent of hair bands and has very few lyrics, in fact they're not even listed in the booklet. So, in conclusion, although there isn't a whole lot of diversity, musically, on this album the music played is hard and heavy accompanied by growling vocals (which took me some time to get used to...). So if you like that sort of thing you should definately give Sub Dub Micromachine a listen & let them know we sent you :) Mikki 9/04 Get it from: |
