"Pop": Joachim Witt

"Pop", by Joachim Witt, came out a couple of years ago in Germany but was recently released in the US on Dancing Ferret Records. This CD has all 13 songs but includes 2 bonus tracks on the US edition - "Zeit zu gehen" and "Erst wenn das Herz nicht mehr auf Stein ist" (club remix)

This album starts off with some very "pretty" songs but they seem a bit... "flat". Lacking in power or emotion. Things pick up a bit during the third song, "Für den Moment" and the next one, "Ich will mehr", a Falco-ish type song, brings us even closer to the club-type sound that pervades the rest of the album. Everything keeps going stronger and better all the way through track 10, "Erst wenn das Herz nicht mehr auf Stein ist" and then everything starts to degrade again. The songs just aren't as good...

On a whole, the lyrics (in German) are nothing special but Joachim Witt has an amazingly distinctive voice and a talent that can transcend that. "Sagst was du willst" had monotonous lyrics and an unpleasant sounding female guest singer and I STILL liked the song!! That says something!!

"Pop" is maybe not one of Joachim Witt's best albums but I think it's up there. I liked it alot. This man takes the whole club/pop/rock thing to a completely different level and I have nothing but respect for him. He is a force to be reckoned with and I have no problem recommending this CD, even to newcomers to his music. It certainly has its flaws but it is still a very good CD. Mikki 11/06
