"Once it was an Attitude": Barroom Heroes![]() "Once it was an Attitude", the debut album by the Barroom Heroes, came out several months ago so I am seriously slacking by only writing about it now but let's just say I gave it the most important test of all - time. It has been playing in my car, non-stop, for 2 months and I have no desire to change that in any way! The title of this 14 song CD pretty much says it all. The Barroom Heroes know attitude and have that and energy bristling in spades. Not so fast that it's annoying, but it doesn't fail to get one's blood moving hardcore, (Anyone who doesn't want to get up and mosh to this has no soul) & the gravelly vocals are no small part of what makes this band so great. The English lyrics deal with many different aspects of life, including, but not limited to, drug use ("Alice"), results of a messed up childhood ("Bad Time Story"), football ("Football"), rich snobby kids ("Rich Kid"), being part of the military ("Follow your Leader")... the subjects are quite diverse but, I must say that, for the most part, the lyrics are somewhat generic. They're decent but not really breaking new ground. But that's ok! My favorite songs, lyrically, would be "Alice" and "Bad Time Story" - I also love "Old School Criminal" as the gangster movie voice clips are great!! So, ok, lyrics are important, generally, & they have some good ones, but the music & vocals are what really keep me listening over & over & over again... Every song for me is, even after 2 months of listening, distinctive & awesome! It is definately a rarity for me to put a CD in my car & be this unwilling to take it out for another band. I'm completely addicted to "Once it was an Attidude" & highly recommend it to anyone who likes fast paced, yet melodic & severely addictive punk rock!! Mikki 4/09 Get it from: Write the band or.. |
