"Megamouth": Bluff

"Megamouth" by Bluff from Kamen, Germany is a very decent punk album!! Starts out with some almost southern style guitar work which is heard here and there but this is definately what I'd call a very energetic punk album.

Highlights include, "Last Action Hero", a song about California's "Governator", Arnold Schwarzenegger. Very funny song, great stuff!! Well, ok, the line "...get over my nose" made NO sense to me & sorry, A+ for creative thinking but "terminator" and "predator" really are not supposed to rhyme.. But hey, still a great song!! "Ode to Rock 'n' Roll" is also great, very simple but with heart! "Mein Ex-Freund" is also very good and is the only German song on this album. I'm not sure why they don't sing more in German but I will cover that in a minute. "Destiny" is also a good song, (though it reminds me so much of another song that my head is liable to explode) but, in my opinion, the best song on this album is "No Business for you". I could listen to this song all day & the English lyrics are actually rather good!! I LOVE that song!!!

But that was the good stuff, I do have a couple minor issues... #1, the lyrics... at times they just seem like they were created to rhyme or just... I don't know, they just failed to be very impressive. One example, "Kick ass", it's a good song but I don't really know what the hell it's about. I sort of do but... I think most of the lyrics in that song are just fillers for the line "I kick your ass tonight"! It works... as long as I'm not looking for meaning, we're good. (Speaking of that song, who is Professor Clump and what is the power of the thumb?) The other ones make more sense (they make perfect sense, that's not the problem) but... I think the lyrics need more depth and German would maybe afford that better than English (or maybe not) which is a foreign language for them. #2 issue is some very shaky vocals at times, mostly on the 5th song, "When we went to school", but also noticeable on others. I didn't notice them so much after that though.

In all, this is a very fun, energetic album, which definately will be played in my CD player at home and in the car. The music is great but I do think that they might try using more German lyrics and save English for when they've come up with something exceptional, like on "No Business for you". They did a great job with that one and despite some minor complaints, "Last action Hero" was also very good!! I think the others would have been better in German, though. But, if you can ignore the lyrics (and some shaky vocals at times) and just listen to the music and the heart of the music, "Megamouth" is a great listen, check it out!!Mikki 1/07
