"Krieg & Frieden": Gottkaiser The new CD by Hamburg's Gottkaiser, "Krieg & Frieden", came out on Feb. 1, 2008, and is quite good!! I guess I would describe it as a rock album with punkish overtones... Well, it's a little hard to describe but it's good!! Sound production is excellent and they all seem to be a very qualified group of musicians. Besides that, the album consists of German lyrics that are diverse and thought provoking. My personal favorite is "Deja Vu", which, although my German is a bit sketchy, appears to be about fascism and other things going on right now that people need to take notice of, so the past doesn't repeat itself. "Schizophren" is also one of those songs that will worm itself into your brain so it is playing even when you're trying to sleep. I have to also mention "Angstgegner", a song about a guy so scared of death that he can't leave his house.. Besides such cool lyrics anyway, I mention it because it has this "thundering" sound that was very disconcerting while driving until I realized it was coming from my CD player (just so you know)... Other faves are "Unfallopfer", an unloved soul who finds his way in the end, "Parasomnia", about nightmares (who'd have guessed that??), "Bootcamp", which appears to be about shows such as our "American Idol" or Germany's "Deutschland sucht den Superstar", and then there's the song, Wörterloo", which is a sort of complaint about how many people use, I guess, too many English words in their German speaking. Those are the most noticeable songs for me, sometimes I find that I have heard a song but not actually "heard" it, but there are no bad songs on this album, just some that catch one's attention more than others. "Krieg & Frieden" is a very good CD and well worth buying! Foreigners with Paypal accounts should also be pleased to know that the band also accepts such payments, which I highly commend!! I wish more bands realized the greatness of Paypal. So, give them a shot, great band, great songs!! I can't imagine anyone being disappointed - I certainly wasn't!! Mikki 2/08 Get it from: |
