"coram publico": Tinnitus

"coram publico" is Tinnitus's second album & it even comes with a DVD!!! Bonus! It came out in 2005, five years after their debut, "Auf dem Weg". What did they do during those five years? Who knows but their lyrics & sound have matured considerably! Don't misunderstand me, though, this band still rocks!!!

The album begins with "Wir ficken die Welt" which just awesome! While I'm hoping to avoid many comparisons to their first album, it's hard not to do so in this case. It's another band introductory song, "Tinnitus 2003, wir sind immer noch dabei, hörst du meinen Schrei". It rocks very much but the sound is much cleaner than before as it is throughout the entire album... still, I can imagine fans that might have been waiting for this album for 5 years would be orgasmic over this initial song, it's that good!

"Baby heute Nacht" is about having no time to hang with your woman because hanging with the guys is more important, well, duh, lol! It has some good parts to it but... that whole "Baby heute Nacht" part didn't do much for me... maybe just a little too mainstream for me...

But the next song, "Pussy" is excellent!!! I love this song!!! It's about not wanting to be a pussy (before I read the lyrics I thought maybe it was a sex song, my bad, lol!) So anyway, it's not about sex, it's about lifestyles... & it rocks!

Some might know that I have an aversion to most slow songs... "Meine Generation" is one of the few exceptions because I love this song!!! It's not a happy song, "Meine Generation, redet von Depression, traurig ist das schon" but it's really nice & is a very good example of how much their lyrics have matured, though all the lyrics on this album prove that without a doubt!

"Engel Song" is next. This song is quite rocking and has a nice sound. I think it's about how one shouldn't isolate themselves but should... open themselves to the rest of the world? Something like that, I think... anyway, it's a very good song!

"Amerika" starts off with an audio clip of George W. saying how he's concerned about a culture that says, "if it feels good, just go ahead and do it". Basically how they find our president just a tad bit scary... well, who doesn't, really???

"Musik" starts off quite nice & has some good parts but I didn't much care for the beginning part of the chorus. It annoys me for some reason, lol. It's not a bad song though... just not a fave. Though I do appreciate that it's about their love for music which is a good thing!

"Was Frauen wollen" is great though, kind of poppy but in a good way & is all about how shallow women can be. They want nice cars, hot guys, big "packages"... Like guys don't want their own shallow stuff, lol, but that's ok! I like this song :)

The next song, "Zu gut", is totally rocking! One of the best songs on this CD & ok... so it's about being too good for someone else, hey, it happens, lol! Anyway, it's an excellent song in everyway, my only complaint is that it means only one song is left... :(

"Ich will dich" starts out with a throbbing bass & drums & then gets kind of mainstream poppish & then back & forth... but it's a very good song, also...

That's the CD but I do have a few words on the DVD as well. I actually really like the DVD! It has a few scenes of silly band antics that might have you shaking your head, saying, "Da hell????" but the live performances are AMAZING!!!! I would LOVE to see them based solely on this DVD footage, they look like an awesome live band! Plus the DVD played some of my favorite songs & none of my none favorite songs so that gives it extra ruling power!

So, what can I say? This a really good CD!!! The music is very good, though maybe at times a little too mainstream for my taste, & the lyrics are thought provoking! My only real complaint would be that it's too short... "Zu gut" seems to always come too fast & that means the album is almost over... I don't want it to be over! But, anyway... "coram publico" has some really excellent songs on it & the DVD is great, I love them both & highly recommend this to anyone into pop/rock w/ a splash of punk, yumm!!! ;) Mikki 8/05
