"Best of Estampie 1986-2006": Estampie

"Best of Estampie 1986-2006" marks a 20 year milestone for the medieval group, Estampie. The album compiles 18 songs from various albums throughout their career and is 79 minutes long. Musically this album is very good, using all medieval instruments, and the vocals are extraordinary although Sigrid Hausen's voice did start to get on my nerves a bit when she was singing alone. It was much better when coupled with male vocals as well and the songs from "Crusaders" featuring the guest vocals of Alexander Veljanov were particularly nice. The songs don't appear to be in any order though, later songs coming before earlier ones so there is no sense of hearing how the band progressed musically over the years. The booklet is also nice with a 20 year history presented in three languages with several photos and it was interesting to read the different ways they've incorporated medieval music in various projects. I have to say though that 79 minutes of this type of music is really pushing my limits. A song here & there is one thing but there is no way that I can listen to this all the way through. But despite that, I do appreciate that it is very well done and anyone who likes this medieval style of music (it is NOT medieval rock, btw) will most certainly enjoy this album alot so I would highly recommend it for die hards and as something to listen to now and then for the rest of us.
