![]() Wahre Lügen interview: I have been a fan of Wahre Lügen for almost a decade now & had asked for an interview before, in the past, but it never quite worked out & then I contacted Olly Deymann (vocals/guitar) & he didn't disappoint me!! Thank you Olly for doing this interview for me - you ROCK!!! - & definately listen to their music on MySpace - it's awesome!!! - Mikki 10/09 DML: Hello Olly!! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview!! I'd first like to ask how you first joined Wahre Lügen. Had you been in other bands previously? Olly: A long time ago, I think I was 16, 17 me and my old Band German-English (great name I know, later “Guilty”, now “Earthmover”) practiced in the same House with Wahre Lügen and many other Bands. I always liked the song “Eifersucht”, and everytime the old singer Mükke wasn't there, I began to sing. After a few years, I wasn't in G-E anymore, Mükke quit Wahre Lügen and the new guy at the mic was named Olly. Then, later again, second guitarrero Anil quit and Olly had to play Gits also- Rest is history… DML: How would you describe Wahre Lügen to people who have never heard you & what music do you think has inspired your distinctive sound? Olly: People who never heard us before? Puh..let's say something like that: This Band is necessary and will go it's very special own way. Right from the first second they will blow up your mind. They are the five glorious four who came to save the world. Intense music, made for those about to rock. Godlike Guitars, Drums from outer space, a Bass who plays thunderous and mighty. Voices you won't believe they are human and lyrics, poetical, mean, sweet, dirty, lovely. 4 unboastful guys who know where they came from... In the early days I think the band was inspired by Die Toten Hosen at first, but also other Bands like Die Mimmis, Slime, Ramones, UK Subs, Toy Dolls and many many more. Later, after Mükke and then Anil quit the Band, the Band created there own wonderful sound which rocks until now. DML: The first album, "Der Wahnsinn hat Methode" came out in 1996, I believe. What were your thoughts on that album at the time and was it pretty popular? Olly: "Der Wahnsinn hat Methode" was a very cool album. And yeah, we, I mean the guys who don't play in that band, all liked it and thought the Lügen are on the way to be the next punkrockstars. Hm, a miss is as good as a mile. But I still like that CD. Do you know there is a videoclip for LIEBESLIED? Ask Thomas, maybe he has a copy of that. DML: You now have a new album (well, as of last year) called "Zweifel & Allüren". How do you compare it to the first album? I was also wondering why the name of the song had changed... Olly: “Zweifel…” is a totally different album than “Der Wahnsinn…” because of a different band. Sure, it's both punkrock, but I think on “Zweifel…” the “Rock-“ is more dominating. The name of the song has changed? Let's say so: Until the song is on the CD, the name changed often, quasi as a project name. The song may be the same for you, but sometimes it became a total different meaning for us. DML: I tried to find the old title of the song "Zweifel & Allüren" and realized that the old site is gone & replaced with your MySpace page, what happened there? Olly: Somebody hacked our site I think, but if I'm honest, I don't really know, maybe you have to ask Kreini about that. But I like the myspace-site, I think today myspace is a good facility to promote a band. DML: So the new album is now out and it is excellent!! Olly: Thanks DML: But why did it take 12 years to finish? Olly: Because we are addled pigs haha. No, I don't really know why it took so long. First of all, and that's why the next album will be there in 2020…maybe…, it's expensive and we are all poor… Even now, it's expensive to make a CD, and we don't have a rich Grandpa in our Practice room who pays our bills. DML: How has the response been so far & where do people find it? Olly: I think the people like the Album, even if they don't know us personally… or even if they do :) DML: Although there are many songs on the new album that were available or heard by fans over the years the new productions of these songs are excellent! How did you manage to improve your sound so dramatically when Wahre Lügen always *appeared* to be somewhat inactive most of the time? Olly: Because we weren't there live all the time or made a new record doesn't mean we were inactive. We spend hours on hours to perfect our sound to what you call dramatically. The time we weren't live on stage, we moved to a new practice area I would call “Lügen-Imperium-Headquarter”, and there, everytime we play we do not practice, these are gigs for ourselves! DML: So what is going on with Wahre Lügen now? Are you still an active band or was just finishing the new album something that needed to be done? Olly: Yeah, we are still active, but mostly in the U.S. because of a wonderful fan called Mikki! (Slime) No kidding, nobody in Germany likes us like you do, so Thanx! But you are right, finishing the album needed to be done, but that doesn't mean we don't do anything anymore. We just need more time than any other one on this planet! DML: What were you all doing during the years between "Der Wahnsinn hat Method" and "Zweifel & Allüren"? Olly: I don't know what the rest was doing, but me, I just wasted my time. As you know, I used to work in a Kindergarten, but parents suck! Children are a gift, but parents are poisen for you if you try to work in a Kindergarten. So I quit and, hm, got a little lazy for some years. Then, I started to work as an assembler and then as a freelancer in exhibition stand construction. And drinking all the time of course :) DML: I know that you, Olly, are making your own music and it's great!! Olly: Yeah! DML: Please tell us more about Ollcore and is this your main project now? Olly: Ollcore is my personel playground were I can spend all the stupid ideas nobody wants to play with me. It's a 1-man-project, just me and my pc. Ollcore will never be live on stage, just in your mind. But no, it's not my main project. At first, there is always the Lügen, even if we don't do anything. The rest is just for me. I have a Blues-project too, with real human players!, called “The Kenntucky Bourbon Allstar Rockers” where we play Rock 'n' Roll-Blues at its best. There will be a myspace site in the near future. DML: Do the other guys also have their own projects now? Olly: If they do, I don't know about that. DML: What are your favorite Wahre Lügen songs and why? Olly: My favorite song ever will be Eifersucht, but I like them all…all killer no filler :) DML: What have been your best and worst experiences while together? Olly: Hm, my first gig with the band was great, but everytime we play, live or practice, it's a great experience. When we start to play, even if we don't see us weeks or months, it feels like we never do anything else than playing in this band. Kreini counts to 4 and the rest begin to smile. One of the worst one was when Anil leaves the band… man, that day sucks! But in the end it was the best that could happened, it's easier to unite 4 opinions then 5. DML: What do you hope to achieve with your new music or, hopefully, also with Wahre Lügen, in the future? Olly: Ollcore is just for fun. I wonder that people like that. And Wahre Lügen: I think, someday in the future we will be back on stage, and surely there will be new songs, as CD or just on myspace who know… At this time, we are all involved in our “real-life”, me and Kreini are freelancers which took a lot of time, Thomas start to study and Frank will always be the slave of a big furniture-store haha. But we'll be back, trust me! DML: Sweet!! Thank you so much for the interview!! You guys are fricking awesome!! Best wishes in the future!! :) More at: |
