 Überflüssig interview: Überflüssig is a really fun punk band from the Herne, Germany area, I believe. I very much enjoyed their latest CD, "Ist nur Spass, Baby" & a new album & video are scheduled to come out in June of this year. I'm very much looking forward to it :) Thank you very much to Joscha (singer, guitarist & main song writer) for answering my questions & I encourage everyone to check this band out!!! :) -Mikki 4/06 DML: I'm curious about the band name. It translates to "superfluous" which has various meanings in English: "excessive, needless, extravagant". How did you choose this name and what do you mean by it?
Joscha: It gives two groups of people. DML: Although you have had other band members in the past there are now just the two of you. I find this incredible! How do you play music live that was recorded in the studio with a bass included? Joscha: In the studio will be all recorded, that a band must have. LIVE we playing the songs in a 2nd version, with a guitar who`s called "SG". This guitar have a bigger sound as a "Les Paul","Fender" a.s.o, and with a good amp (Hughes and Kettner) you have a great big sound with only one guitar, thats my secret :-) DML: The two of you seem to get along very well. Is it, however, hard for brothers to work so closely together sometimes? Joscha: My brother and I are the best friends too, and he want to make, what I will :-) DML: I noticed some cool band stickers on a guitar in one of your pictures. What bands do you consider inspirational and why? Joscha: I love funpunks bands how "Blink 182","Toy Dolls","Die Ärzte","Abstürzende Brieftauben"... This bands haven`t rules, und write and sings their own songs, without other persons said : You must do this, what the MAJORS will. DML: How are your songs written? Joscha: Hhhmmmm....I write about all, what comes in my brain. That can be all themes, that you know, but you don´t know, too. DML: There are two cover songs on your album, "Ist nur Spass, Baby" - "Ute" by the Plums and "Crash" by The Primitives. How did you choose these songs? Joscha: Schorschi (The Plums) is a good friend, and the song is great, I want to have this song, and Schorschi says : OK. "Crash" is from the movie "Dumb and Dumber", and I love this songs since the 80s. DML: I understand you're working on a new album. In what ways will it differ from your last album (besides having different songs ;))? Joscha: At the first time we want to recorded a SKA song (with 2 persons *hi hi hi) We want to use so many guitars, amps and drumsets... DML: What have been some of your best and worst band experiences? Joscha: Hhhmmm...no idea DML: What goals do you hope to attain with the band? Joscha: Many friends, many money, and girls, girls, girls :-) DML: My friend's favorite question: What CD are you most embarrassed to own? Joscha: My favorite is "Ist nur Spass, Baby", I love popsongs, and this record has much of it DML: Thank you very much for taking the time to do this interview! Is there anything you'd like to add?
