Sub Dub Micromachine interview: Sub Dub Micromachine is a really awesome band from Berlin & you should all check them out!!! Many thanx to H-Beta & the rest of the band for taking the time to do this interview, you guys rock! Literally!!! :) Can't wait to hear the new album & everyone should buy "Rabautz!" immediately!!! It's very good! It IS! I swear!!! -Mikki 12/04

DML: First of all we'd like to know how you came up with band name Sub Dub Micromachine. What does it signify?

SDMM: Of course we´d like to tell you a wild story about the meaning of our band name, but there is no meaning. Sorry, but it sounds good, or not?

DML: What bands were each of you in previously & how did SDMM come together?

SDMM: Everyone of us played in many different east German bands. Here are some names: B.Crown, Rosengarten, Kampanella is Dead, IFOR, Suspiria, The Fate, Knorkator, Die Skeptiker, Pink Parsons, Big Savod and the deep Manko. A lot of bands and many different styles. And years after the Berlin wall came down, we found ourselves together with these experiences in a studio during a recording session for the band "HALMAKENREUTHER", HMR for short, a post punk band from Berlin. After 2 years, the major deal with BMG was cancelled and after thousands of little wars with the singer, we dropped him and SDMM was born.

DML: How would you describe your music to those who've never heard you before?

SDMM: This describes it easily:
Groovy bass lines, heavy guitars, bombastic drumbeats and stupid electronic nonsense. For more information please buy our CD :-) , or listen to www.chronixradio.com!

DML: Your biography mentions that the band, "went back to their roots" for more metal & a bigger, badder sound. What exactly are these "roots"?

SDMM: During the work with "HMR", we discovered our passion for metal music, because we all grown up with it. But "HMR" was not the right way for us to create our own sound.

DML: What made you interested in actually performing music & what instruments do you play?

SDMM: At the beginning we thought: "...oh yeah, it´s cool to play in a band and to live the rock ´n roll..." Today music is the most important part in our lives and we don´t wanna do anything else. We´re able to play a lot of instruments, but for SUB DUB MICROMACHINE we only need a bass, guitars, drums and a master keyboard for the electronic nonsense.

DML: Why are your lyrics almost entirely in English? Wouldn't it be easier to express yourself in your native language?

SDMM: It´s never easy to find good lyrics, equal in any language. Why in English........because we think it´s better to be understood internationally and not only in Germany.

DML: You get alot of sound out of 3 people. Do you use guest musicians on your live shows & are you looking to add more members or are 3 enough for you?

SDMM: Ooh thank you for the compliment! But of course, we´re not quite happy with the result of our 1st album. But we promise you a much better sound for the 2nd. No, we don´t need guest musicians for the live shows 'cause for the additional electronics we got our little "MICROMACHINE" with us on stage. The rest is rock ´n roll.

DML: Speaking of live shows - could you tell us what one can expect when going to an SDMM concert?

SDMM: Mega sound for your ears, deep basses for your stomach and nice guys for your eyes :-) .

DML: Do you prefer playing open air festivals to smaller clubs? Do you prefer the studio to playing live?

SDMM: Of course we love to play the open air festivals, but it´s also great to kick asses in a small club. Playin´ live and the studio work are very important for us. We love it both.

DML: What jobs do you each have or is the band your sole source of income?

SDMM: 2 of us have their own little music school and the drummer has a restaurant.

DML: I first heard of you with a reference to another Berlin band, Knorkator, & also noticed SDMM mentioned on one of their CD credits. Do you have some sort of connection to Knorkator or are they just fans of your music?

SDMM: Kirk was one of the founders of KNORKATOR, and we´re still good friends. Actually we have an interesting new project together. It´s called "DISCO BRUTAL".

DML: Have you gotten much international feedback to your music or are you almost solely known in Germany?

SDMM: The www is our gate to the whole world! Big thanks to the #1 internet metal station, chronixradio, for their support! That station is really awesome. Yes, we have much international feedback as you can see in our guest book.

DML: I understand you're working on a new album. In what way might this differ from your 2002 debut, "Rabautz!"?

SDMM: Yes, the new album is different from "RABAUTZ!". We have more melody parts and the electronic shit has more signification. The new songs are much more varied than on the 1st album. For some people it could be a surprise.

DML: Besides the new album, what can we hope to expect from SDMM in the future? Are there any special goals you'd like to achieve?

SDMM: Of course, the 2nd album has priority! We hope we´ll get the right record deal as soon as possible! We wanna tour across Europe and it would be da bomb to come with SDMM to the US to see what´s up. (Yeah it would!!! - M)

DML: Thank you very much for the interview! We're very much looking forward to hearing more from you soon. Is there anything you'd like to add?

SDMM: We wanna thank: Chronixradio with Sean and Rockie, Deutschmusikland with Mikki, Knorkator and Tubareckorz with Alf, Stumpen and Buzz Dee, Radio Goethe with Arndt Peltner, www.BeSonic.com, www.Berlin4fun.com with Mühli, Olli and Berti, www.webradio-orange.de with GOB and Atomix.

And many greetz to our fans: Keep your nose clean!!!
