KellerChaos is a great young band from the area of Preetz, Germany. Three 16 yr old girls rocking hard, check them out!! And many thanks to their singer/guitarist, Jana, for taking the time to do this interview!! Much appreciated!! :) -Mikki 5/07

Jana: My first band split up, but I still wanted to make music, so I just asked Rieke and Lena if they wanted to start a band with me. We´re called KellerChaos, cause our band-practiseroom is down in my basement and there´s complete chaos… that´s why we´re KellerChaos.

DML: How would you describe the KellerChaos sound for those who haven't heard you yet?

Jana: Hm… I would say ´Take some Punk, Ska and Rock together and combine that with 3 chaotic girls`

DML: Are there any specific bands that you'd say have had a definate influence on your music?

Jana: Of course there are bands that have influenced us… for example ´Green Day` and ´Die Ärzte` (my favourite bands).

DML: Your bio says you taught Rieke (your sister) and Lena the basics on their instruments and they then learned on their own. They really did this on their own afterwards? Also, how many instruments do you play, as you were able to teach them, and how long have you been playing them?

Jana: Yeah, they really learned on their own. I play guitar, bass and drums and at the moment my mother is teaching me piano. I've played guitar since I was 4 years old and at the age of 13 I got my first electric guitar. I think I was 14 when I tried to play bass… it´s not hard when you can play the guitar. At the age of 10 I started to play drums… but just for a short time. Also at 14 I bought myself a drumset and started to play again and learned it on my own.

DML: You're also the songwriter. Is that fun or hard for you, what topics interest you when writing, and do Rieke and Lena help in that at all?

Jana: I write the songs on my own, but when they´re finished I ask Lena and Rieke if it is good or what could be better. Songwriting isn´t hard for me to do, you can´t say ´Now I`ll write a song`, you know… It just comes over you and then you can write where ever you are. I get the ideas and inspirations from my life, what happens to me or to friends or if my boyfriend and I broke up… I can deal with all those things and mostly I feel better afterwards.

DML: Could you tell us more about your EP? What is it called and where can one purchase it from?

Jana: We recorded this EP in Kiel with Barni (a great guy and also a musician). We just recorded 3 songs there (Danke Nein, Vorbei, Auf das schöne Wetter) the other ones were produced in the musicroom of our school. The EP is called ´KellerChaos` (well,…the first EP *haha*)… You can send an e-mail to order this CD or you can ask us… if you meet us or whatever.

DML: I told a friend of mine about your music and he was so impressed by what your band was doing that he ordered your EP for his 13 year old daughter. What do you think of the band being a possible role model for your generation?

Jana: We want to reach people (also of our age) with our music and maybe we can encourage those young people to start writing songs or playing intruments… that would be cool.

DML: Your bio also mentions that you are planning your debut album. How is that going?

Jana: :) Well... we will make this album this year, that´s right. We hope that we can released it this year, if not it´ll be released next year.

DML: Since you've experienced both studio work and live shows, which do you prefer and why?

Jana: I really prefer the live shows, cause being on stage and singing my own songs with my band is a great feeling. And it´s fun! I mean, we have fun at the studio, too, but it´s definetely more fun on stage, when you see all those people freaking out. I love being on stage!

DML: What have been the best - and worst- experiences while playing with KellerChaos?

Jana: hm… difficult… the best one is that Lena, Rieke and I are the best friends and it´s great that I can make music with them. The worst…hm…I really can´t think of it ^^

DML: What hopes and goals do you have for the band, as well as personally, in the near future?

Jana: I hope that we can make music for a long time together, you know, Rieke and I finish school this year and Lena has still got one year to go, I hope we won´t lose each other.

DML: Thanx very much for taking the time to answer these questions! I really hope to see you play one day in Germany (or the US *hint, hint*) :) Is there anything you'd like to add?
