![]() STOA:The neoclassical-ethereal band STOA was formed in 1991 by Olaf Parusel, who was looking for an avenue to connect his philosophical and musical thoughts. He enlisted the vocal talents of Conny Levrow, who had spent many years playing violin and performing classical choruses as a soloist. In 1991 the first STOA song, (called incidentally enough, “Stoa”), was released on a compilation from Hyperium records called From Hypnotic…to Hypersonic. STOA was signed to Hyperium and released their first full length album entitled Urthona in 1992. In 1994 the second STOA CD, Porta VIII, was released. The album was themed around being a continuation of the Maurice Maeterlinck fairly tale “Ariadne et Barbe Bleue”. The mid-nineties saw the beginning of change for STOA. In 1996 Christiane Fischer was added to the lineup as cello player and backup vocals in live performances. In 1997 Conny left the group to further peruse her classical career and was replaced by Antje Buchheiser, another proficient violin player. Also in 1997 STOA left the Hypernium label In 2001 STOA signed to the German label Alice in… and released their third album Zal. Also a new singer, Mandy Bernhardt, joined the lineup. Currently the band has re-released their first two albums. -Nick Diak 06/04 More at: |
