![]() Senore Matze Rossi:Translated (possibly very poorly) from Senore Matze Rossi's MySpace page:The name, Senore Matze Rossi, aka Matze Nürnberger, should already be known to many as he's been involved in the indie/punk/rock scene for the last 13 years: As a founding member, guitarist, songwriter and singer for Tagtraum - one of the most authentic German speaking bands of the last several years - he toured from 1993-2006 throughout Europe, released 5 studio albums, diverse vinyl EP's as well as a live CD/DVD on Dancing in the Dark Records. For a long time Matze collected songs that weren't quite suitable for Tagtraum and in 2004, in his living room, he recorded his favorites of these on a 4 track player. At first the 7 tracks were only intended for family and friends but because of the great interest he later released them on a self made CD-R under the name "solo(w) boy, so-low" The CD's were only available for purchase from Matze directly or at Tagtraum concerts but in just a few weeks over 500 had been sold. The songs were downloaded off the internet countless times, copied & passed on. The great emerging interest, countless questions about concerts and, above all else, the disbanding of Tagtraum in May 2006 were all deciding factors for Senore Matze Rossi's second album, "Und wann kommst du aus deinem Versteck" which again appeared as a self production. This time however, knowing that this album was actually going to be released, he managed the charm of a home release & yet also managed to provide a warm and rich sounding album. 10 new pieces which sparkled due to decent instrumentation and with Matze's singing and lyrics were allowed to blossom into their rightful place. Refrains such as those on "Alles Gute (kommt von innen)", "Das ist für die Lieblingslieder" or "Wenn das ein Film wäre" remain immediately in one's head but the lyrics are still deep enough to touch you. On the second album Matze played his trup card perfectly - the binding of discriminating lyrics with impressive melodies. At the end, after the secret track "Die Frage ist nur noch wann?"it becomes clear what he is all about: The music actually is about people, about love, about searching and finding, wanderlust and homesickness... and about the individual stories of every listener. And Matze succeeded to bridge the gap between his punk rock history and that of the great songwriters of the past such as Bob Dylan, Rocky Votolato and The Bright Eyes. Certainly music with vocals and guitar is like sand at the ocean but songs quickly pale without a heart and stories behind them. And here also Matze has achieved solo what his band Tagtraum had also always done: He's generated the awareness that there is more than just consumption. Rather there is the often longed for but rarely found communication between a musician & his listeners. -Mikki 10/06 More at: |
