![]() Seeed:In 1998, 11 guys, most of whom had know each other for years & had even competed against one another in school band contests, decided to create a marching band. Not just any marching band mind you... a New Orleans style marching band that used dub & dancehall instead of second line brass. It was a mobile Reggae taskforce with horns, drums & a huge line-up followed by a big truck that carried their PA equipment & a guy mixing dubs... Seeed began their conquest...In December, 1999, the band made contact with the Hamburg Dub label, Echobeach & they began tackling an album project. The result was a 12" in May 2000 whereby Downbeat/Warner took notice of them as well... In December, 2000, the song "Dickes B." appeared on vinyl but wasn't actually realeased as a single until 4 months later on Warner Video. It went up & down the music channels & finally in May the album, "New Dubby Conquerors" appeared & climbed to #17 on the charts where it remained for 6 months! The release of the album was followed by an extensive 6 month tour & festival appearences through Germany, Austria & Chechoslavakia to ever growing crowds. The fall tour was completely sold out but they had to quit midway when one of the 3 singers got facial paralysis after a sudden & severe viral infection. They are currently working on a new album. -Mikki 6/02 More at: |
