Sandra:

Sandra Lauer, known just as Sandra, was born in 1962 in Saarbrücken, Germany and showed interest in singing from an early age. She started out her career as Sandra Ann in Germany, putting out in 1976 her first official release, "Andy mein Freund", a song talking about her producer’s dog, a song matching her age at that time.

During the late seventies she joined the singing group Arabsque, consisting of three young pretty girls, which enjoyed success in Japan mainly. In 1985 with her single "Maria Magdalena" from the album "The Long Play" she had a number one single in over 20 countries. Her songs during her solo career are sung in English. In the beginning the style of her music is typical eighties’ pop with pompous synthetic drum beats. This style evolved in the nineties and the turning point in Sandra’s music is her 1995 album "Fading Shades" where her music starts sounding more modern and sometimes more ambient and definitely more elaborate.

The influence of her husband Michael Cretu (Enigma) is always strong and he also contributes in the compositions and produces her albums . Her voice is soft and high pitched and is almost always a pleasure to hear. Sandra is also the "voice of enigma". She lends her voice to the Enigma albums, the main work of her husband. "The Long Play"(1985) and her latest work "The Wheel Of Time" (2002) are recommended listenings and are each typical examples of the two eras of her discography. Marios Maroulis 4/03
