![]() Raufaser:The story of Rauhfaser began about 10 years ago in the cult club, Exile. Zam Helga was playing in the basement with his band, Helga Pictures, as Morscher played upstairs in a punk formation called Problem. Tira waitressed to finance her fashion design studio & played rythm guitar is various local bands. The three befriended one another & chatted often but always went their seperate ways as their musical interests were too different. It wasn't until later that they realised how fertile these differences could be...Zam Helga left Helga Pictures after 4 successful years & founded instead Zam Helga und die Zulus w/ whom Morscher eventually started playing drums. About this same time Tira asked Zam to write some music for a fashion show she was presenting. She played with them & her interest in Depeche Mode & English rave eventually opened Zam up to a whole new world- that of electronic music. She also decided to take the plunge & participate in the adventure that we now call Rauhfaser. The only thing missing was a bass player which was remodied when Tira dug out her Les Paul bass & played w/ such melody that a second guitarrist was superfluous. They then began work on their first album, "Netropol". During the months of intense labor their style progressively changed becoming more electronic with louder beats & harder grooves. The lyrics, written by Zam also crossed the spectrum, dealing w/ subjects such as online junkies, Erotisism on the net, the attraction of Buddhism, false idols & the quest for finding one's self... In the fall of 1999, the single, "Die Schöne und das Biest" was released followed shortly by a corresponding video. The director, Rainer Matsutani, convinced, amongst others, his friend Udo Kier to play a murderous psychopath in the video. Kier, who is one of few Germans to have made a name for themselves in the US, was so taken with Rauhfaser's music, he invited them to Los Angeles. Here they played a roll in his film, "Broken Cookies" & contributed the song, "Wenn die Liebe ein Engel" to the soundtrack. Not quite sure what they're doing right now, apparently taking a break? I suppose creativity doesn't always come in an instant so check their site periodically :) -Mikki 6/02 More at: |
