![]() ![]() OOMPH! was founded in 1991 by Dero, Flux and Crap in Wolfsburg, Germany. Contracted to the Berlin record label Machinery Records they released their first MCD, "Ich bin du", in 1991. The song quickly became a hit in dance clubs across Germany. Even more successful became "Der neue Gott", the second release which is played still by German independent DJ´s. Hard, provocative and electronic the band inspired the rising electro-industrial scene. The 1992 debut album "OOMPH! was released containing both German and English lyrics, which became a typical feature of OOMPH!. Then in 1993 the band released the single "Breathtaker", which contained more guitars than its predecessors, giving a preview of what was to come on the up-coming album. The second OOMPH! album, 1994's "Sperm", shows a well-done combination of guitars and electronic elements. The band also tried to include some new rhythms. The album was released on the Machinery sub label Dynamica which was founded to present some more "hard" music. In 1995 the third album "Defekt" was released. It was the loudest and most aggressive album the band had released so far. In 1996 they released their fourth album "Wunschkind" which deals with the abuse of children and doesn´t compromise. As time went on they became dissatisfied with Dynamica. The tours were promoted badly, and the all-day work went worse. In March 1998 they finally left Dynamica and signed under the major label Virgin Records. In 1998 OOMPH! released their fifth album "Unrein". With this album the band got into the Media Control charts for the first time. In 1999 the band released the album "Plastik" & for the single "Fieber" the band got help from nobody else other than Nina Hagen. In 2001 OOMPH! returned to the studios to work on a new album, Ego, which includes the single "Supernova" & there's no end in site! (Thank you Supernova fansite for this info!) -Mikki 12/01 More at: |
