Xavier Naidoo:

Xavier Naidoo was one of the most successful German popstars of 1998. His debut album, "Nicht von dieser Welt" sold more than a million copies & took all the major music awards from Echo to MTV Awards.

Born Oct. 2, 1971 in Mannheim of a South African mother & a father of Indian ancestry, Naidoo began singing in school & church choirs. After school he recieved an offer to work in the US. This first music business experience was bitter & he returned home to sing in musicals & work as doorman of the Mannheimer Milk! Clubs, a breeding ground for the German Drum & Bass scene... including a model of his, Herbert Grönemeyer.

Frankfurt producers, Moses Pelham & Thomas Hofmann recognised Naidoo's enormous vocal abilities & added him to their 3p label as a solo star & "Frei Frei" w/ fellow 3p-er Sabrina Setlur brought him much needed attention. In 1998 "Debut Album" appeared. It remained in the top-20 for over a year!

Naidoo's music has been termed "soulful, vivid & religious" he's even been described once, by Spiegel, as the "Jesus of the Hitparade" his unconventional, though romantic idealism seems to appeal to those craving spirituality... -Mikki 12/01
