![]() ![]() Megaherz was founded in 1993 by Alexx Wesselsky (at one time known also as Alexx v. Weygand) & four colleagues who were convinced that they could wed music with German lyrics, without sounding like "New German Wave" or "Bewildered Krautrock". Their name came about from living in the "Metropolis with a Heart" & under the influence of "Megadeath" and the nightmare of the German folk band, "Wildecker Herzbuben" & they still go by the program: Hard, But With a Heart! Their first demo CD, "Herzwerk" was released in January, 1995, leading to their first contact w/ radio & TV media & "Wer Bist Du" was released in 1997 & sold about 16,000 copies. By this time Alexx Wesselsky was the only original member of the band. Wenz & X-Tian joined to create a "core" of three that would last for some time. The album also included the help of "guest" musicians such as former Megaherz band members as well as Noel & Frank who later became members of the band. In autumn of 1997, Megaherz toured as support for Subway to Sally through the German speaking countries, followed by performances at some of Europe's biggest festivals. The song "Gott Sein" had developed into a hit in many rock clubs & in August of 1998, the band entered the studio to begin work on "Kopfschuss" the release of which resulted in an increased fanbase, media interest & a #7 single, "Freiflug". In May 1999, the band consisting of Alexx, X-tian, Wenz, Frank, and Noel began work on "Himmelfahrt" which was released in March 2000. Some time later, due to personal reasons, both Noel and Frank left the band & were replaced by Pohl from their support band Twelve after Elf & ex-Keilerkopf drummer, Jürgen for their latest CD, "HERZWERK II", which was just released in March 2002. It was produced by Ralf Weigand, who's also worked on albums for Such a Surge & Sportfreunde Stiller, this is an album much less dominated by electronics than those previously, in the attempt to add a livlier spirit & natural sound & less of a perfectionist feel to it. Their lyrics have included themes of politics & religion but while they definately have something to say they don't pummel you w/ the message. The sad news is that Alexx has left the band & they are currently looking for a new singer. Thanx to Betsy & Jennifer for their help :) -Mikki 1/03 Update: In 2004, the album, "Megaherz 5" came out with Mathias Elsholz taking the stand behind the mic. The reactions were varied but, due to a personal situation, Mathias also had to step aside and room for another was made. This time Lex Wohnhass stepped in although it took some time for this to take place. The newest incarnation of Megaherz recently put out an album called "Heuchler" in 2008. -Mikki 8/09 More info at the sites below: |
