Peter Maffay:

In the München area he began his career, as many before him, playing various tunes by Bob Dylan & Donovan in clubs. Fascinated by the peace politics of both musicians, he soon began writing his own music along the same lines.

In 1970, his first million selling hit was a gentle song called simply, "Du". It remained on the charts for 30 weeks & made him known to the public at large. It also acquired for him an image as a Schlager/Schnulzen singer which he hasn't been able to drop even now, 30 years later! By the end of the 70's he'd had 9 gold & 6 platinum albums.

Motivated by his dislike of war & environmental destruction, "Eiszeit" was released in 1980, becoming a hymn for the peace movement.

Still, wanting to speak to children as well as their parents, he opened his own studio & put out the rock fairytale, "Tabaluga oder die Reise zur Vernunft" & in 1994, the third album in the Tabaluga series went on tour for 90 performances, his biggest success yet.

Maffay continues communicating his ideas through music & has done a bit of acting as well... His newest album, in 2001, is "Heute vor Dreissig Jahren". -Mikki 3/02
