Udo Lindenberg:

Udo Lindenberg was born in Gronau/Westfallen on May 17, 1946. In 1962 his traveling/learning years began playing jazz in Düsseldorf w/ Gunter Hampel. In 1968 he joined the folk band, City Preachers, as a drummer & the next year he started his first own band, Free Orbit.

His first English album was released in 1971 entitled, simply enough, "Lindenberg" w/ the jazz-rock band Emergency & was followed by "Daumen im Wind", his first album in German, in 1972.

A busy man, a book was published in 1979 called "Hinter all den Postern" by Rororo. His album, Panische Nächte" was released in 1980 followed the same year by the first Lindenberg movie, "Panische Zeiten" which was actually highly regarded by critics.

He has participated on a cooperative CD for Africa, been interviewed w/ ex German chancelor, Willy Brandt, played Live Aid concerts, 6 World Youth Games in Moscow... even exchanged gifts & political views w/ Erich Honecker, ex-head of the East German government.

An autobiography was published in 1989 & his photoalbum, containing some of his art, "Lindianer- Bilder in Panikcolor" was in 1996.

After all this & much more he is still going strong, playing Recht Gegen Recht concerts & exhibiting his art. His newest project is called "Atlantic Affairs"

(Many thanks to Volker Traudt for his translation) :) -Mikki 1/02
