![]() ![]() The term "Lacrimosa" comes 2 different sources, one being a combination of the Latin words "Lacrimae" & "Mosa", loosely translated as "flowing tears". The second is from Mozart's Requiem, which he died before completing... In Nov. 1990, a solo project of Tilo Wolff's called Lacrimosa was being talked about in the underground discos. It's melancholy & classically imbued music, poetic lyrics & emotional singing fascinated a Gothic & Darkwave scene that was on it's death bed & gave it renewed life. For the first LP, "Angst" in 1991, Tilo Wolff founded the record label, Hall of Sermon, in order to preserve artistic freedom. He took full financial responsibility & it's failure would have spelt death for Hall of Sermon as well as Lacrimosa. The gamble payed off, a second release, "Einsamkeit", came out in 1992. More albums were released & in the beginning of 1994 Anne Nurmi, keyboardist & singer for the Finnish goth band Two Witches became the second permanent member of Lacrimosa, her singing & writing skills adding a further accent. The next release, I'm not sure if Anne's first appearance was on "Schakal" or "Inferno", combined the powerful hardness of metal & hard rock without disowning their obvious love for classical, spanning the bridge between different music styles & scenes, creating a better tolerance amongst both. Lacrimosa's 13'th release, in 2001, "Fassade", is their biggest work thus far in what they say is "a long process of composing and orchestration for a Symphony Orchestra, Choirs, solo instruments and a rock band, brought together in a way which is breaking all traditions and known music forms, without loosing the typical, non inimitable LACRIMOSA character." To this day Lacrimosa has shaped & influenced different musical directions & scenes while never following one of their own. Despite their success outside the Underground, Lacrimosa has always followed their own path & will continue to do so... -Mikki 3/02 Translated & severely shortened from: Stolzesherz site More at: |
