Eloy:

The name of the band was inspired from H.G. Wells’ book "Time Machine".
The band formed at the end of the 60s as a cover band. They started writing progressive rock compositions with Erich Schriever at the vocals guitars and keyboards by Manfred Wieczorke and guitars and vocals by Frank Bornemann. In 1971 Eloy’s first self-titled albums was released. Another three albums came until the mid 70s when the band broke up when Erich Schriever left.

Frank Bornemann decided to reform the band and play the part of the vocalist and producer thus being in better control of the upcoming works of the band. Klaus-Peter Matziol and Jürgen Rosenthal took the positions of the bassist and the drummer. The rest of the 70s were a most successful era for Eloy producing their best albums.

The 80s brought new albums as well as the band splitting up again. In 1993 ‘Chronicles’ best-of collection was released consisting of old Eloy songs re-recorded by the reunited band. A double CD, "Timeless passages" was also released in 2003.

Eloy is an essential listening for progressive music and the albums "Dawn" and "Ocean" are the best way to get into their music. -Marios 4/04
