![]() Eat The Gun:Taken directly from their MySpace page:It was about eight years ago, when in a small town called Münster/Westphalia, a few boys grew up, not only influenced by their older siblings, but especially by the music of Skid Row, Ugly Kid Joe, Guns n Roses and Motley Crüe. Holding the first guitars in their virgin hands, they picked up the solos and lyrics of several songs, found them just great and founded one of these typical garage bands. This might sound like a cliché, but for these upraising RocknRoll disciples it was just programmatic! Hendrik: Back then our only aim was, to play in our own fuckin RocknRoll band. And we were damn lucky, to be only 16 but already playing together in this quite good combo which was the perfect basis for the actual cast. But up to where the band is standing now, it took a long time and much perseverance. From school parties over small outdoor festivals to private parties, smoky club sessions and spontaneous gigs, wherever electricity was available, they made their way. These gigs often ended in strange locations, sometimes hard to reach, and with regularly changing members of their road crew who had to be their drivers, carrying equipment as well as band members in vehicles which no longer deserved to be called cars. Hendrik: These drivers had to pass as our adult siblings; otherwise it would have caused a lot of trouble with the law. There were always envious people somehow trying to put us down and place obstacles in our path. In the beginning of 2002 the band, still known as VAIRA, consulted several management and booking agencies to organize their band work in a more professional way. In March then Sven Kruse, managing head of HEADSHOCK, contacted them, but only because of one photo the band sent with their application. Sven (Manager): They looked so damned funny, I just had to find out about them... Activities eventually led into a first, confidential meeting in a small, stuffy room in Münster, where the band held their rehearsals to have a look at the existing material and find out about their RocknRoll attitude. Sven: The songs were all real, as well as the band. In my opinion completely authentic material but of course still to be improved. Sven introduced the band to Mathias Strass, owner of FishTonstudios in Bremerhaven. In cooperation with HEADSHOCK he took care of improving the bands songwriter skills. Because of this hard and mentally exhausting work, after long but friendly discussions, VAIRAs drummer Hennes decided to quit, feeling unable to fulfil the upcoming hard standards. Hennes (Ex-drummer): I didnt want to stop my mates in their development, wouldnt want to stand in their way. I just couldnt keep on track with the rest of the band. When he left, the other band members felt very sorry about his decision, not only because he had been a long time companion but also the womanizer in the band, a real RocknRoll animal par excellence. Nevertheless they found a new drummer, Gereon, who put his professional attitude to a test playing the live drums for Philipp Boas Voodooclub. In technical terms he fit perfectly into the band and after a short while he fell in line with the outfit and attitude course the band was celebrating. Hendrik: After Hennes left, we had to find a new name for the band and VAIRA just didnt match with our now song material. EAT THE GUN was born! This final line-up occupied the FishTonstudios again for several weeks and after writing some more new songs; they were ready to present 8 fresh, new tracks in autumn 2002. Spontaneously EAT THE GUN was offered to be the opener for the DONOTS gig in Berlin. The gig in the Knaack Club was a great success for the band and Sonys A&R, Oliver Schreibvogel, was just impressed, too. Guido (DONOTS guitar player): They were the fuckindamn loudest band on the entire tour...har har. Additional record companies were interested after the positive reviews and so in winter 2002 the legendary showcase at Wild at Heart in Berlin took place. Unfortunately, in face of many representatives from record companies, it became clear that the band was unable to cope with the showcase pressure at this time. Simon (Git): Apart from these companyguys, only a few guests were joining our gig, let alone people standing in front of the stage. They were sitting at the bar, talking and being rarely interested in our music. We tried to play our asses off, totally confused by what was happening and felt like being out of touch with this snobbish audience. Our performance just didnt fit in there... When the words fell: This is the way you want to save SONY??? , the band felt completely desperate and this led into a first real Drugs & RocknRoll after show party where finally nobody could make out light at the end of the tunnel. Recovered from this shock EAT THE GUN decided to release their material on their own, as an EP called Kingsize which they sold at their concerts and on their homepage. Hendrik: Believing in our music we kept going and we learned, that what matters in life, is to find your own way and let nobody stand in your way. It was exactly what we wanted to give to the people and our fans. Its sometimes hard to believe passionately in the things you do and work for it, but finally the day will come when this work will pay off. ROCKNROLL! On the nationwide Kingsize-tour the EP was sold over a thousand times within nine months. The press also caught fire (e.g. presentation of the months in the Hammer magazine 07/03) and according to many positive reviews, EAT THE GUN has great future potential. Hendrik: We were motivated again and knew, we were on the right way! Major labels arent doing well in finding new trends in music and during the last years the music industry developed in a way that has to be a kick in the ass for bands like us! For a musician it is terrible to see that record companies produce a lot of shit and releasing it they wonder why nobody would buy their records. Supporting newcomer bands has become unimportant or is just not taking place. I use to call that the faked generation, based on silicone, one hit wonders and fast money. Break out the jams! RocknRoll stands for rebellion, a special attitude in life. Its no t-shirt you can buy at H&M or some fashion shop for 150 bucks!... Phil (Bass): Were much more critical and careful with the majors, but also very confident that the newly offered deals will soon work out! Gereon (Drums): Our nationwide tour will last until the end of 2003. Were really looking forward to playing for our fans and the massive support the press will give to us. In the beginning of 2004 we will definitely start recording our next album and therefore we cant wait to meet potential dealers.... har har...! Hendrik: Getting in touch with the audience is very important for us. We are influenced most strongly by these interactive emotions since every live show is unique in itself! The fans of a rock band are the most faithful ones on earth; this is an experience we already made when we started our career as a garage band. Real rockers dont like these TV casted one hit wonders. These bands will be forgotten by their audience faster than a rocknroll band would be. Rocknroll fans are different, more loyal. I think this is the right place to thank all our faithful believers, followers and future fans. Hey head bangers, gas pedal kickers, footstompers, neighbours most hated: lets have wild and fuckin crazy R&R parties- well meet in your town!!!! EAT THE GUN are carved from hard wood, they rock for their growing fan community and the authentic style. They dont have only one RocknRoll life but many, they walk their way straight on and what the hell could stop these guys...?... ....this story will be continued by RocknRoll and EAT THE GUN! -Mikki 10/06 More at: |
