Circle of Grin:

Loosely translated from the biography on the official site:

In December 2001, as all of Köln was busy decorating Christmas trees and spraying angel figures on their kitchen windows, five guys met in an industrial warehouse that had been converted into a practice room. For years they had spent time in the most varied "Zweck-Bands" and nothing had come of it but frustration. This time they just wanted to have a small jam-session between friends. Wine bottles rattled, French cigarette papers crackled and then the amplifiers came on and the music moved, grooved, vibrated and simply rocked so much that no one present could hide their grins. This was the hour of birth for Circle of Grin!

From then on everything went very quickly. The Circle found themselves friends who applied themselves to the tasks of promotion, video, website design and the pressurized live sound. With this background and their high energy alternative Tieftonrock, Circle of Grin gained themselves a true support base which continues to grow. Deide, André, Carsten, Sebi and Jan have played over 100 gigs nationwide from the smallest dives to swank clubs such as the Kölner Underground or the Zeche Bochum as support for numerous well-known acts or as co-headliners before over a thousand audience members at the Kölner Ringfest 2003 and 2004 where they played as if there'd be no tomorrow.

Circle of Grin doesn't pretend to be creating something completely new - nevertheless, the various musical histories of the band members benefits the sound. Various styles are bound together and weaved throughout are heavy, pressurized expanses of sound which overlap catchy melodies. The songs are so various and richly facetted, as only a grin can be... sometimes ironic, sometimes furious, sometimes nice but one thing that they all have in common - they all show their teeth.

In spring of 2002, a 7-track demo was self produced and a record contract with the independent label, "Eat the Beat Music" resulted in the 2003 EP, "The end will be the same". On January 31, 2005, the long awaited debut, "Same as it never was" is scheduled for release. It was produced at the BluBox Studios in Troisdorf by Guido Lucas. Mikki 1/05
