![]() Adaro:Taken directly from their site:Archaic hooks played by bagpipes and sacral hurdy-gurdy play over beguiling vocal arrangements. Within a mystic and varied expression, middle high german song lyrics are adapted to a pop music context of the 21st century. The spectrum reaches from minnesong to ethno rock, quotations from metal, gothic vibes and electronic sounds. On the latest album "Minnenspiel" [Minneplay] ADARO take the listener to love adventures of the 13th century. The middle high German lyrics used on the album do not lack a reference to the present. "Owê diu minne" for example tells us about a minnesinger who succeeds in using a bit of cunning. In "Ich zôch mir einen Valken" is a story of a jealous woman who is going after her unfaithful man. "Minnenspiel" is a dirge telling us about a burning but unfulfilled love. On the other hand, "Tandaradei" rewards with a bit of hanky-panky in the middle of nature. And "Winnenden" even describes the obstacles of a seduction taken for granted. ADARO manage - with their original instrumentation - the splits between the centuries. So they are also using - apart from bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, bombarde, recorders, crumhorn - electric guitars, bass guitars and drums. The vivid vocals and the virtuosly played instruments are carefreely combined with technical sounds in order to form an incomparable soundscape. Frontman Christoph Pelgen gives the historic song lyrics life and clearness. He also virtuously handles the complete spectrum of medieval woodwind instruments. By the way, frontwoman Konstanze Kulinsky revolutionizes the playing style on the hurdy-gurdy. Unique in Europe, she decisively enhances the barriers of that instrument with effects like wah-wah, roto-sound and her own special playing technique. Deep Purple founder Ritchie Blackmore (Blackmore's Night) wrote to ADARO: "we had to write to say how much we enjoy your music. it is very exciting and refreshing. thank you for the music and keep up the great work!"
