![]() DAF:Perceived in the early 80's as having an element of danger in their sounds, content, and look, DAF were banned from certain clubs for their political and sexual ambiguity. Some DAF songs like "Der Mussolini" and "Sex Unter Wasser" became underground club hits. The DAF sound paved the way for the electronic body music (EBM) style of Front 242, Die Krupps, Nitzer Ebb and many others. Their influence can still be heard in electronic music today.DAF was created in Dusseldorf during the punk movement in 1977 by Gabi Delgado-Lopez and Robert Gorl. Along with Ludwig Hass, Wolfgang Spellmans, and Michael Kemner they released their first album in Germany entitled Product der DAF on Warning Records. Product der DAF was an unlikely combination of synth and tape powered heavy metal. DAF soon moved to London where they would sign to Mute records, (home of Laibach). After releasing their first single on Mute, Kebabtraume, had been reduced to a duo. After releasing their first Mute album,Die Kleinen Und Die Bosen, and another single, Tanz Mit Dir, they embarked on a tour that encompassed Austria and Germany. Afterwards, DAF would changed labels to Virgin. Another album, Alles Ist Gut, and single, Der Mussolini/Der Rauber Under Der Prinz, was released. DAF would soon break up, and one of its core members would go off and form DAF/DOS. -Nick Diak 5/02 More at: |
